Prof. Dr. Antonio Luiz Braga

Graduou-se bacharel em Química na Universidade Federal de São Carlos, em 1981. Realizou mestrado (1984) e doutorado (1989) em Química Orgânica, pela Universidade de São Paulo, sob a orientação do Prof. João Valdir Comasseto. Foi professor no Departamento de Química da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM, 1985-2008). Desde 2009 atua no Departamento de Química Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC). É Professor Titular da UFSC, com experiência em Síntese Orgânica, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Química Verde, Catálise Assimétrica, moléculas bioativas de selênio e telúrio derivadas de aminoácidos e outras fontes naturais; Síntese de miméticos da enzima Glutationa Peroxidase. Orientou 36 doutores, 38 mestres, 21 pós-doutores (18 Brasileiros, 1 Alemão, 1 Indiano e 1 paquistanês), 4 doutores/sanduíches Alemães. Publicou mais de 300 trabalhos em periódicos reconhecidos pela comunidade, 14 patentes, com mais de 12.700 citações. Índice H: 60. Foi coordenador do comitê de Química da FAPERGS (2000-2001). Foi coordenador de um projeto Núcleo de Excelência (PRONEX-2005) - Apoio ao Núcleo de Bio-Orgânica de Organocalcogênios. Coordenou um Projeto CT-Infra na UFSC. É vice coordenador do projeto INCT-Catálise, com sede na UFSC. Foi Secretário Geral do 11th Brazilian Meeting on Organic Synthesis (11th BMOS, 2005) e Chairman do 15thInternational Conference on the Chemistry of Selenium and Tellurium (ICCST-15, 2022). Foi agraciado com os Prêmios Pesquisador Destaque em Química do Rio Grande do Sul (FAPERGS, 2007) e Prêmio Fritz Muller - Pesquisador Destaque de Santa Catarina (FAPESC, 2023). Em 2009 foi eleito membro do Conselho Consultivo do International Conference on the Chemistry of Selenium and Tellurium (ICCST). Foi Membro do Comitê de Química do CNPq entre 2009 - 2011 (Coordenador do CA entre 2009-2010); Membro Titular eleito da Academia Brasileira de Ciências (ABC) e Membro do conselho consultivo da SBQ (2014-2016).

He got his bachelor's degree in Chemistry at the Federal University of São Carlos, in 1981. He completed his master's (1984) and PhD (1989) in Organic Chemistry, at Chemistry Institute, University of São Paulo, under the guidance of Prof. Joao Valdir Comasseto. He was professor at the Department of Chemistry at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM, 1985-2008). Since 2009 he works at the Department of Chemistry at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). He is Full Professor at UFSC, with experience in Organic Synthesis, working mainly on the following topics: Green Chemistry, Asymmetric Catalysis, bioactive molecules of selenium and tellurium derived from amino acids and other natural sources; Synthesis of Glutathione Peroxidase enzyme mimetics. He has supervised 36 PhD, 38 MSc, 21 postdocs (18 Brazilians, 1 German, 1 Indian and 1 Pakistani), 4 German PhD/ sandwiches. He has published over 300 papers in recognized journals, 14 patents, with over 12,700 citations. H index: 60. He was coordinator of the FAPERGS, Chemistry committee (2000-2001). He was coordinator of a Nucleus of Excellence project (PRONEX-2005) - Support to the Nucleus of Bio-Organics of Organochalcogen Compounds. He coordinated a CT-Infra Project at UFSC. He is vice-coordinator of the INCT-Catalysis project, based at UFSC. He was Chairmen of the 11th Brazilian Meeting on Organic Synthesis (11th BMOS, 2005) and Chairman of the 15th International Conference on the Chemistry of Selenium and Tellurium (ICCST-15, 2022). He was awarded in 2007 as Rio Grande do Sul Outstanding Researcher in Chemistry (FAPERGS, 2007) and Santa Catarina Outstanding Researcher-Fritz Muller Award (FAPESC, 2023). In 2009, he become member of the Advisory Board of the International Conference on the Chemistry of Selenium and Tellurium (ICCST). He was Member of the CNPq, Chemistry Committee, between 2009-2011 (CA Coordinator between 2009-2010); Elected member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and elected member of the advisory board of the SBQ (2014-2016).
