My research interests include systematics, biogeography, ecology, and population dynamics of tropical plants with the ultimate goal of understanding the ecological and evolutionary patterns of their diversity. Some of my studies have concerned in the impact of intensive land-uses, such as habitat fragmentation, on tree species composition, diversity and forest structure. I am currently investigating the influence of habitat configuration on tree and liana communities, and the impact of vines on tree survivorship in forest fragments of southeastern Brazil. My future research plans are investigate biotic and abiotic factors that promote and depress plant diversity and shape plant community composition on local, regional, and ultimately global scales.
Possui graduação em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Federal de São Carlos (1994), mestrado em Biologia Vegetal pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1998) e doutorado em Biologia Vegetal pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2003). Atualmente é curadora/pesquisadora no Museu de História Natural de Estocolmo. Possui sólida experiência na área de ecologia vegetal com ênfase em ecologia de comunidades e diversidade biológica, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: alterações de ecossistemas, estrutura e composição de comunidades vegetais, especialmente árvores e lianas. O trabalho como curadora e pesquisadora do Museu de História Natural de Estocolmo forneceu credenciais para trabalhos taxonômicos e filogenéticos com fanerógamas.
