Jessica Matos Kleiz Ferreira

Degree in Biological Sciences. Master in Biological Chemistry, and concluding PhD (August 2022) in Biological Chemistry, at the Institute of Medical Biochemistry Leopoldo De Meis, in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Research field on toxinology. Biochemist studying snake venoms, on a general profile and on the characterization and purification of toxins using proteomic approaches (e.g., chromatography, mass spectrometry). Currently working on the heterologous expression of neurotoxins to further study their structure and dynamics by structural biology techniques (e.g. NMR), and also exploring and characterizing neurotoxic venoms and toxins by using pharmacological approaches (e.g. electrophysiology techniques). Recently concluded a sandwich (supported by CAPES-Programa Institucional de Internacionalização, PrInt)) at the Toxicology and Pharmacology Laboratory, at KU Leuven, Belgium, working on the screening of neurotoxic venoms on different types of receptors/ion channels.
