Demographer - Master's degree in Demography by the Centro Latinoamericano y Caribeño de Demografia /CELADE (1978) and Ph.D in Demography - London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (1993). She is associated professor of the Federal University of Minas Gerais:; had a post-doctoral stage at PAHO in the area of aging and health. Training Director of the graduate Course of Demography/UFMG. She has experience in: demographic dynamics, evaluation of data, fertility, population aging and reproductive health. Executive Secretary of the Brazilian Association for Population Studies (1995-96) (1997-98) President of the Latin American Association for Population Studies (ALAP) (2013/2014). She integrates: (a) IBGE Advisory Committee on Demographic Statistics. (b) Notas de Población's peer reviewers and Editorial Council boards. (c) CNPq Advisory committee (Area of Architecture, Demography, Tourism and Urban Planning (2017-2019). (d) International Organizing Committee for the 2025 International Population Conference.Supervisor of 2018th Brazilian winner thesis of the CAPES prize of the Urban Planning, Demography and Regional Development Areas. Elected vice-president of the IUSSP (Internacional Union for the Scientific Study of Population) -Period 2022/2025. Collaboration with international cooperation agencies in the formulation of development plans for least developed countries.

Secretaria geral da Associação Brasileira de Estudos de População (ABEP) gestões 1995-96 e 1997-98; Presidente da Associação Latino Americana de População (ALAP), gestão 2013-2014 e membro do seu Conselho Consultivo. Orientadora de tese ganhadora do prêmio CAPES 2018 da área de Planejamento Urbano, Demografia e Desenvolvimento Regional. Eleita vice-presidente da IUSSP (Internacional Union for the Scientific Study of Population) -Gestão 2022/2025.
