Guilherme Moreira Fians

Leverhulme Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews (Scotland) and Co-Director of the Centre for Research and Documentation on World Language Problems (Netherlands/USA). Holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Manchester, a MA in Social Anthropology from the National Museum / Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PPGAS-MN-UFRJ) and a BA in Social Sciences (Sociology, Anthropology and Political Science) from the Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IFCS-UFRJ). His research expertise and interests are concentrated on the fields of anthropological theory, nationalism and internationalism, linguistic anthropology, digital anthropology, social movements, transnational history and childhood and youth studies. He is the author of the book Entre Crianças, Personagens e Monstros: Uma Etnografia de Brincadeiras Infantis [Among Children, Cartoon Characters and Monsters: An Ethnography of Children's Plays] (2015), co-editor of O Esperanto Além da Língua [Esperanto beyond the language] (2017) and author of Esperanto Revolutionaries and Geeks: Language Politics, Digital Media and the Making of an International Community (2021).

Doutor em Antropologia Social pela University of Manchester, mestre em Antropologia Social pelo Museu Nacional, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (PPGAS-MN-UFRJ) e bacharel em Ciências Sociais pelo Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Sociais da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (IFCS-UFRJ). Membro do Grupo de Antropologia do Caribe Global da Universidade de São Paulo (CANIBAL-USP), onde colabora com a linha de pesquisa sobre antropologia do colonialismo e pós-colonialismo, e do Institute for Transnational and Spatial History da University of St Andrews, onde co-coordena a área de Digital Humanities. Atua principalmente nas áreas de teoria antropológica, nacionalismo e internacionalismo, antropologia linguística, antropologia digital, movimentos sociais, história transnacional e infância e juventude. É autor do livro Entre Crianças, Personagens e Monstros: Uma Etnografia de Brincadeiras Infantis (2015), co-organizador de O Esperanto Além da Língua (2017), e autor de Esperanto Revolutionaries and Geeks: Language Politics, Digital Media and the Making of an International Community (2021).
