Mariana Pinheiro Bento Leite

Dr. Mariana Pinheiro Bento?s is an assistant professor of Biomedical and Electrical and Software Engineering at the University of Calgary (UCalgary). Advancing brain imaging has been Dr. Bento?s central concern for over 10 years, from her master?s and doctoral work in computer engineering at the University of Campinas in Brazil to her postdoctoral work in Radiology and Clinical Neuroscience at UCalgary. A member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, Dr. Bento is currently focusing on normal brain aging and on Alzheimer?s disease, she has also investigated other illnesses, including tumours, multiple sclerosis, and lupus. By using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to define biomarkers?measurements of what the illness looks like in the body?she is helping clinicians quickly and accurately diagnose these conditions.
