Tor Sverker Vilhelm Almqvist

Graduated in Civil Engineering from Lund University (1991) and Ph.D. at Traffic Planning and Engineering from Lund University (2006). He is currently guest professor at Department of Transport at USP School of Engineering in São Carlos. Sverker Almqvist has experience in Transports Engineering, Road safety, Intelligent Transport System and Road User Behaviour.
Possui graduação em Engenharia Civil - Lund University (1991) e doutorado em Traffic Planning and Engineering - Lund University (2006). Atualmente é pesquisador senior - Swedish National Road and Transport Institute. Tem experiência na área de Engenharia de Transportes, com ênfase em Segurança Viária, Sistema de Transporte Inteligente e Comportamento de Usuário de trânsito.Membro de Societies Professional:The Swedish Association of Transportation Planners and Engineers (TF),International Co-operation on Theories and Concepts in Traffic Safety (ICTCT),International Working Group on Speed Control, (IWGOSC).Key Qualifications:Sr Research Fellow at the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute, VTI, in the Human-Vehicle-Transport system interaction team, under scientific leadership of Professor Dr J. Andersson. Voluntary Docent at the Federal University of São Carlos, UFSCar, Brazil.Visiting Professor at Transport Department at the Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos - USP e Escola Politécnica - USP.Lund University lecturer in road safety disciplines of Master Sc-programme.Manager and co-ordinator of the development and evaluation of ITS solutions for improved road safety, in specific Speed Adaptation systems for cars. The projects carried out at the department can be looked upon as a world wide pioneer work from which experience has been implemented in many other countries.Extensive experience in leadership in training of staff for carrying out road safety studies in many, both in industrial as well as in developing, countries. This also includes adaptation of good practise of road safety actions and how to implement evaluation methods in new environments.Co-ordinator for Swedish International Development Agency´s in multidisciplinary advanced training programme for road safety professionals from developing countries. Specialist on the Traffic Conflict Technique, TCT, which is a method where road safety and risks are described in mathematical terms. The development of the technique and the traffic safety theories linked is an ongoing work, where experiences from different geographical and cultural areas around the world are included.The University research group was honoured with the Volvo Traffic Safety Award 1991, for the development of the Swedish Traffic Conflicts Technique, as a method for risk assessment in real traffic.Presentations of scientific papers and projects about road safety issues at several national and international conferences and symposiums.
