Doctor by the University of Bristol (1996) obtained in the department of Agricultural Sciences. Most of my work deals with the interplay between ion pumps and membranes and how this affects cellular functions. Recently also got interested in the influence of lipids on cell wall maintenance. In addition, I have experience in autophagy, cell death, pyrophosphate metabolism and cancer. The aim of my studies is to understand how non-structural functions of lipids affect eukaryotic cell biology, to help in the development of more effective fungicides and to provide information useful to understand sterol-related rare diseases.
Possui doutorado em Agricultural Sciences - University of Bristol (1996). A maioria do meu trabalho lida com a interação entre as bombas de íons e as membranas, visando entender como isso afeta as funções celulares. Recentemente estou interessado também nos efeitos da composição lipídica na manutenção da parede celular dos fungos. Além disso, tenho experiência em autofagia, morte celular, metabolismo do pirofosfato e câncer. O objetivo dos meus estudos é entender os efeitos não-estruturais dos lipídeos na célula eucariótica, ajudar no desenvolvimento de fungicidas mais eficazes e fornecer informações úteis para entender as doenças raras relacionadas com esteróis.
