Professor Titular aposentado do Insituto de Computação da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro desde 2011. Professor Catedrático em tempo parcial da Escola de Engenharia da Universidade de Navarra de setemebro de 2021 até Junho de 2022. Atua como pesquisador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Informática da UFRJ. Possui graduação em Engenharia Elétrica pela UFRJ (1975), mestrado em Engenharia de Sistemas e Computação pela COPPE/UFRJ (1981) e doutorado em Sistemas de Informação - University of East Anglia (1986). Realizou pós-doutorado na Santa Clara University (1994-1996). Atuou como Professor Visitante na Universidade de Paris VI (2001) e entre 2004 e 2005 na Universidade Politécnica de Valencia, Espanha. De Fevereiro de 2020 a Agosto de 2021 atuou como Investigador Senior no TECNUN, Universidade de Navarra, Espanha Tem experiência na área de Ciência da Computação, com ênfase em Sistemas de Informação, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: sistemas colaborativos, gestão de conhecimento, engenharia de software e projetos de interfaces. Aplica suas pesquisas no domínio de gestão de emergências. Mantém cooperação regular com professores de: Universidade Politécnica de Valencia e o Rensselaer Polytechnic institute, EUA. De 1987 a 1994 foi Secretário Executivo do Centro Latino Americano de Estudos em Informática (CLEI). Em 1988 coordenou a organização do Congresso da SBC. Foi um dos fundadores do grupo de interesse em Engenharia de Software e do grupo de interesse em Sistemas Colaborativos, ambos da Sociedade Brasileira de Computação. Foi um dos fundadores do CRIWG (Collaboration Researchers International Working Group). É membro do Conselho de Administração da IEEE-CSCWD e foi membro do Conselho do ISCRAM de 2016 a 2020. Em 2016 organizou XIII edição da Conferência Internacional sobre Sistemas de Informação para a resposta e gestão de crises (ISCRAM 2016). Foi Co-Chair do Comitê de Programa da Conferência ACM CSCW em 2017. Foi Presidente da ISCRAM (Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management) Association entre 2018 e 2019. Foi Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa 1-D do CNPq (2008-2020) e Cientista do Nosso Estado da FAPERJ (2012-2022). Atualmente é membro do Working Group 5.15 da IFIP.
Retired Full Professor, Department of Computer Science, Mathematics Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro since 2011. Full Professor part-time, School of Engineering, University of Navarra from September 2021 to June 2022. He holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from UFRJ (1975), a Master's degree in Systems and Computer Engineering from COPPE/UFRJ (1981) and a PhD in Information Systems - University of East Anglia (1986). He completed postdoctoral studies at Santa Clara University (1994-1996). In 2001 he served as Visiting Professor at the University of Paris VI and between 2004 and 2005 at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain. From February 2020 to August 2021 he was Senior Researcher at TECNUN, University of Navarra, Spain. He works as a researcher of the Graduate Program in Informatics at UFRJ. He has experience in Computer Science, with emphasis on Information Systems, working mainly on the following topics: collaborative systems, knowledge management, software engineering and interface projects. He applies his research in the area of Emergency Management. He maintains regular cooperation with professors from: Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain and the Rensselaer Polytechnic institute, USA. From 1987 to 1994 he was Executive Secretary of the Latin American Center for Computer Studies (CLEI). In 1988 he was the coordinator of the SBC Congress. He was one of the founders of the interest group in Software Engineering and the interest group in Collaborative Systems, both of the Brazilian Computer Society. He was one of the founders of CRIWG (Collaboration Researchers International Working Group). He is a member of the Steering Committee of Directors of IEEE-CSCWD. In 2016 he organized XIII edition of the International Conference on Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management (ISCRAM 2016). He was Co-Chair of the Program Committee of the ACM CSCW Conference in 2017. He was President of the ISCRAM (Information Systems for Crisis Response and Management) Association between 2018 and 2019. He was a 1-D Research Productivity Fellow at CNPq (2008-2020) and ?Senior Scientist fellow at FAPERJ (2012-2021). He is currently member of the IFIP Working Group 5.15.
