José Eduardo Ribeiro Cury

José E. R. Cury received the B.S degree in electrical engineering from the National University of Brasilia (UnB), Brazil, in 1975, the M.S. degree from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil, in 1979, and the ?Doctorat D'état Es Sciences? from the Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France, in 1983. Currently he is a full professor at the Department of Automation and Systems of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil. He has been a visiting researcher at Carnegie Mellon University in 1995-96, at the Universities of Angers (2005) and Nantes (2006 and 2007-08), and at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC-Lisbon) in 2015-16. He has been Associated Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control (2005-2008) and of the European Journal of Automation (2008-2015). Areas of expertise include Supervisory Control of Discrete Event and Hybrid Systems, with applications in Robotics and Manufacturing Systems, Transportation Systems and Systems Biology.

Possui graduação em Engenharia Elétrica pela Universidade de Brasília (1975), mestrado em Engenharia Elétrica pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1979) e Doctorat D'état Es Sciences - Universite de Toulouse III (Paul Sabatier) (1983). Atualmente é professor titular da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Foi editor associado do IEEE Transacions on Automatic Control no período de 2005 a 2008 e do Journal Européen de Systèmes Automatisés (JESA) no período de 2008 a 2015. Foi professor visitante em diversas universidades européias e pesquisador visitante na Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) em 1995-96, na Université de Nantes em 2007-08, e no Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC-Lisboa) em 2015-16. Tem experiência na área de Engenharia Elétrica, com ênfase em Teoria de Controle de Sistemas Dinâmicos, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: controle de sistemas a eventos discretos, e sistemas híbridos, aplicações em sistemas de manufatura, sistemas de tráfego e redes biológicas.
