HELENA JUDITH NUSSENZVEIG LOPES
Doutora em Matematica pela University of California, Berkeley (1991). Realizou estágios de docência e pesquisa na Univ. of Kentucky (1991-92), na Indiana University (1997), na Penn State University (2002-03) e na Univ. of California, Riverside (2011-2012). Foi Distingished Visiting Professor of Mathematics na Brown University, 2017. Foi Simons Fellow no Isaac Newton Institute, University of Cambridge, 2022. Foi docente da UNICAMP de 1992 a 2012, e é professora titular junto ao Depto. de Matemática da UFRJ desde 2012. Tem experiência na área de Equações Diferenciais Parciais, atuando principalmente na área de Dinâmica dos Fluidos; sua principal área de pesquisa são as soluções irregulares de equações de dinâmica dos fluidos incompressíveis. Para além deste tema, trabalhou com sistemas de desigualdades variacionais, sistemas de leis de conservação e com aplicações da teoria de transporte ótimo. Foi Editora-chefe da Editora da SBM 2008-2010, foi membro suplente do CA de Matemática/Estatística do CNPq, 2007-2010, foi membro da Coordenação de Área da Matemática e Estatística da FAPESP, 2007-2011, foi membro do Corpo Editorial do Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences. É Editora Associada do SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, é membro dos Corpos Editoriais do Partial Differential Equations and Applications e do Bulletin of the Brazilian Math Society. É Managing Editor da revista Orbita Mathematicae, da UMALCA. Foi segunda vice-presidente da SBMAC de 2011 a 2013, membro do Conselho da SBMAC 2014-2017, representante da SBMAC junto ao board do ICIAM de 2011 a 2015. Foi eleita Chair do SIAM Activity Group on Analysis of PDE para 2015-2016 e Chefe do Departamento de Matematica do IM-UFRJ com mandato 2014-2016. Foi membro do Conselho Cientifico do Centre International des Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées - CIMPA de 2013 a 2021. Foi agraciada com a Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico em 2010, eleita Fellow da Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics em 2016 e membro titular da Academia Brasileira de Ciencias em 2019. Foi eleita Fellow da American Mathematical Society em 2020. Concederam-lhe o TWAS Award Mathematics, 2022. Foi Conferencista Convidada na Seção de Equações Diferenciais Parciais do International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2018. Foi eleita fellow da TWAS em 2022.
She holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley (1991). Faculty at Unicamp from 1992 to 2012, currently full professor in the Department of Mathematics at IM-UFRJ, since 2012. She has experience in the area of #8203;#8203;Partial Differential Equations, mainly in Fluid Dynamics area; the main topic of her #8203;#8203;research are irregular solutions of the equations for incompressible fluids dynamics, such as Euler and Navier-Stokes and derivative systems. Apart from these, she worked with variational inequalities systems of conservation laws and with applications of optimal transport theory. She was Editor-in-chief of the SBM Book Publishing business, 2008-2010, an alternate member of the CA Mathematics / Statistics CNPq, 2007-2010, and a member of the Mathematics and Statistics Area Coordination of FAPESP, 2007-2011. She is Associate Editor of SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis and a member of the Editorial Boards of Partial Differential Equations and Applications and of the Bulletin of the Brazilian Math Society. She is Managing Editor of the journal Orbita Mathematicae, of UMALCA. She was a member of the Editorial Board of the Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences. She was the second vice president of SBMAC 2011 to 2013, as well as member of the SBMAC Council since 2014. She was the Representative of SBMAC with the ICIAM Board from 2011 to 2015. She was elected Chair of the SIAM Activity Group on Analysis of PDE for 2015-2016 and Head the Department of Mathematics of IM-UFRJ for the term 2014-2016. She was a member of the Scientific Council of the Centre International des Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées - CIMPA from 2013 to 2021. She was awarded the National Order of Scientific Merit in 2010, was elected a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics in 2016 and elected for the Brazilian Academy of Sciences in 2018. She was elected Fellow of the American Mathematical Society Class of 2020. She was awarded the TWAS Award Mathematics in 2020. She was an Invited Speaker in the Partial Differential Equations Section of the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2018. She was elected fellow of TWAS in 2022.
