José Maurício Vieira Filho

Maurício Vieira is PhD in International Politics and Conflict Resolution from the University of Coimbra, Portugal (2015/2020) and researcher at the Nationalities Observatory (ON) and at the Conflict and Violence Research Laboratory (COVIO), both associated to the Ceará State University (UECE), in Brazil. Prior to this position, he became an adviser at the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations in New York for a period of two terms (May-July 2018 and September-December 2017) and at the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, from September to December 2012. As part of his PhD, he also became a Visiting Doctoral Researcher at the University for Peace, in Ciudad Colón, Costa Rica, from January to April 2018; Visiting Doctoral Fellow at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), in Oslo, from September to November 2018; and Junior Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding at the Graduate Institute, in Geneva from May to August 2019. He holds a MA Degree in International Relations, with specializing in Peace and Security Studies from the University of Coimbra (2010/2012). He also holds a Diploma in International Law from the University of Fortaleza, in Brazil, where he also obtained a BA in Journalism (2006). His areas of research are focused on the role labelling plays with regard to decision-making processes within international organizations, taking the case of the UN Peacebuilding Architecture designed for post-conflict countries.

Maurício Vieira é PhD em Política Internacional e Resolução de Conflitos pela Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal (2015/2020), pesquisador do Observatório das Nacionalidades (ON) e do Laboratório de Estudos Conflitualidade e Violência (COVIO), ambos vinculados à Universidade Estadual do Ceará (UECE), no Brasil. Maurício Vieira atuou como consultor na Missão Permanente do Brasil junto a Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU) em Genebra (Setembro-Dezembro 2012) e em Nova York (Setembro-Dezembro 2017 e Maio-Julho 2018). Como parte do doutorado, foi Pesquisador Visitante na Universidade para a Paz (UPeace), em Cuidad Colón, Costa Rica, de Janeiro a Abril de 2018; pesquisador visitante no Instituto Norueguês de Assuntos Internacionais (NUPI - Norwegian Institute of International Affairs) em Oslo, de Setembro a Novembro de 2018; e no Centre for Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding no Graduate Institute, em Genebra, de Maio a Agosto de 2019. Possui Mestrado em Relações Internacionais, com especialização em Estudos para a Paz e Segurança pela Universidade de Coimbra (2010/2012); é especialista em Direito Internacional pela Universidade de Fortaleza, no Brasil, onde também obteve o grau de Bacharel em Jornalismo (2006). As áreas de investigação centram-se no papel dos rórulos/das categorias no processo de tomada de decisão em organizações internacionais, tendo como foco a Arquitetura de Consolidação da Paz da ONU para países incluídos em contextos pós-conflito.
