I currently work as associate professor at UFRGS/IPH (Brazil), where I teach both undergrad and graduate level courses on water management, systems analysis and water economics. I also coordinate a research group on water planning (https://www.ufrgs.br/warp/) and represent the university at the Gravatai River watershed committee, where we seek to bring scientific research and applied problems together.I am passionate about water resources and I have been working in this field since 1997, both academically and in consulting. My main experience includes mathematical modeling for development of Decision Support Systems applied to water resources planning and management. The focus is on finding solutions for efficient operations and management of water systems, based of performance criteria involving economics, equality and environmental sustainability. I had the opportunity to participate and coordinate both research and consultation projects in Brazil, United States, Kenya, France, Chile and Canada. I am attracted to wicked problems on large-scale water systems, including preparedness against uncertainty and climate change, conjunctive use of surface and groundwater, reservoir operation and hydropower optimization, environmental flows trade-offs and water-food-energy nexus, mostly with the application of hydro-economics, optimization theory and methods.
            
         
            
        
            
                Professor Associado do Instituto de Pesquisas Hidráulicas (IPH) da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Coordena o Núcleo de Planejamento e Gestão de Recursos Hídricos do IPH - GESPLA, é membro do Comitê de Gerenciamento da Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Gravataí, professor do Programa de Pós Graduação em Recursos Hídricos e Saneamento Ambiental (PPGRHSA) do IPH e dos cursos de graduação em Engenharia Ambiental e Engenharia Hídrica da UFRGS. Tem experiência na área de Recursos Hídricos,  com ênfase em Planejamento Integrado, técnicas de análise de sistemas, otimização e economia de recursos naturais. Interesses em pesquisa:  Modelagem hidro-economica de sistemas hídricos, aperfeiçoamento de instrumentos de gestão (cobrança, outorga, enquadramento, planos de bacia, sistema de informações, marcos regulatórios, alocação negociada e outros), otimização da operação de sistemas hidrelétricos integrados ao atendimento de demandas ambientais, otimização do uso integrado de aguas superficiais e subterraneas, otimizacao da operacao de reservatorios
