Cristiano M. Chiessi holds a BSc (2001) in Geology from the Institute of Geosciences (IGc), University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, a MSc (2004) in Geosciences (emphasis on Sedimentary Geology) from the IGc ? USP, and a PhD (2008) in Natural Sciences (emphasis on Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology) from the University of Bremen, Germany. Between 2008 and 2009, he developed a post-doc research project in the fields of Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE). He is currently Associate Professor (2) at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities (EACH) from USP, leader of the Paleoclimate subgroup of the Interdisciplinary Climate Investigation Center (INCLINE) from USP, from the Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology Laboratory (P2L) from EACH, member of the Center for Geochronology and Isotope Geochemistry Research (CPGeo) from IGc, and holds a research productivity scholarship (1C) from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). He is a member of the Scientific Steering Committee of the Past Global Changes (PAGES) and of the Science Framework Working Group of the 2050 Scientific Ocean Drilling (International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP)). He was a member of the Science Evaluation Panel of IODP and of the Working Group 1 (Scientific basis of climate change) from the Brazilian Panel on Climate Change (PBMC). He is an expert in Geosciences, with special focus on Paleoceanography, Paleoclimatology and Climate Change, and the main research topics addressed by him are: abrupt climate change, meridional overturning circulation, multidecadal climate variability, South American monsoon system, carbonate and bulk sediment geochemistry, Late Quaternary, South America, and South Atlantic. During his career, he interacted with more than 400 researchers through co-authorships in scientific manuscripts.
Cristiano M. Chiessi possui graduação (2001) em Geologia pelo Instituto de Geociências (IGc) da Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Brasil, mestrado (2004) em Geociências (com ênfase em Geologia Sedimentar) pelo IGc - USP e doutorado (2008) em Ciências Naturais (com ênfase em Paleoceanografia e Paleoclimatologia) pela Universidade de Bremen, Alemanha. Desenvolveu pós-doutorado no Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) e no MARUM-Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, Alemanha. Atualmente, é professor associado (3) da Escola de Artes, Ciências e Humanidades (EACH) da USP. Adicionalmente, é líder do subgrupo Paleoclima do Núcleo de Apoio à Pesquisa - Mudanças Climáticas (INCLINE) da USP, líder do Laboratório de Paleoceanografia e Paleoclimatologia (P2L) da EACH, membro do Centro de Pesquisas em Geocronologia e Geoquímica Isotópica (CPGeo) do IGc, bolsista de produtividade em pesquisa (1C) do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) e membro do Water Resources Working Group da iniciativa Safe Landing Climates do World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). Foi pesquisador associado do Hanse Institute for Advanced Study e pesquisador sênior da Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, ambos sediados na Alemanha, além de membro do Scientific Steering Committee do Past Global Changes (PAGES), do Science Framework Working Group do 2050 Scientific Ocean Drilling (International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP)), do Science Evaluation Panel do IODP e do Grupo de Trabalho 1 (Base científica das mudanças climáticas) do Painel Brasileiro de Mudanças Climáticas (PBMC). Tem experiência na área de Geociências, com ênfase em Paleoceanografia, Paleoclimatologia e Mudanças Climáticas, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: mudanças climáticas abruptas, célula de revolvimento meridional do Atlântico, variabilidade climática multi-decenal, sistema de monção da América do Sul, circulação superficial e profunda do Atlântico Sul, geoquímica de carbonatos e de sedimento total, Quaternário, América do Sul e Atlântico Sul.
