Graduado em Oceanologia (1993) e com mestrado em Oceanografia Biológica (1997), ambos pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande, completou seu doutorado em Oceanografia Polar pelo Alfred-Wegener Institut für Polar- und Meeresforschung (2002), na Alemanha. Em 1994 passou seu primeiro inverno antártico a bordo do quebra-gelo americano "Nathaniel B. Palmer", cruzando os mares de Bellingshausen e Amundsen, e estudando o gelo marinho como parte de seu mestrado em Mudanças Climáticas. Da graduação até o presente, foram mais de 1500 dias no mar, em diferentes expedições, e entre elas, 14 expedições antárticas de diferentes nacionalidades. Com esta bagagem científica, tem se dedicado à divulgação da ciência e advogado em prol da resiliência climática. Atualmente é professor da Universidade Federal Fluminense, pesquisador PQ-2 do CNPq, review editor da revista Frontiers in Climate e guest editor da revista Sustainability. Tem experiência na área de Oceanografia atuando principalmente com mudanças climáticas, oceanografia física, paleoceanografia e desastres naturais.
Graduated in Oceanology (1993) and Master in Biological Oceanography (1997), both from the Federal University of Rio Grande, he completed his doctorate in Polar Oceanography from the Alfred-Wegener Institut für Polar- und Meeresforschung (2002), in Germany. In 1994 he spent his first Antarctic winter aboard the American icebreaker "Nathaniel B. Palmer", cruising the Bellingshausen and Amundsen seas, and studying sea ice as part of his Masters in Climate Change. From graduation to the present, there were more than 1500 days at sea, in different expeditions, and among them, 14 Antarctic expeditions of different nationalities. With this scientific background, he has been dedicated to the dissemination of science and an advocate for climate resilience. He is currently professor at Universidade Federal Fluminense, PQ-2 researcher at CNPq, review editor at Frontiers in Climate and guest editor at Sustainability. He has experience in the field of Oceanography, working mainly with climate change, physical oceanography, paleoceanography and natural disasters.
