Graduate in History at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS-1988) and Ph.D. in Social History at Universidade de São Paulo (USP1996), Francisco Marshall did his first post-doctorate in Pinceton University (NJ, USA), as a CAPES-FULBRIGHT grantee and guest of Peter Brown. In 2008-9, as a research grantee of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, he did his second post-doctorate as a visiting professor in the Institut für Klassische Archaeologie of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg. Currently, he is associate professor in the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS, Porto Alegre, Brazil), working in the Department of History and in the Program of Post-Graduate Studies in Visual Arts. He is experienced in Ancient History, Classical Archaeology, and Art History, and acting also in Museology, Iconology, Semiotics, studies of the imaginary, Cultural History, History of the sciences, epistemology, History of the city, and Renaissance studies. The author is also essayist, columnist in the press, cultural producer and leader, and creator of current music.
Licenciado em História pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1988) e doutorado em História Social pela Universidade de São Paulo (1996), Francisco Marshall realizou pós-doutorado na Princeton University (NJ, EUA, 1998), como bolsista Capes-Fulbright, convidado de Peter Brown, e na Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg (Alemanha, 2008-9), como bolsista da Fundação Alexander von Humboldt. É professor Titular da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, atuando no Depto. de História (IFCH) e no PPG Artes Visuais (IA). Tem atuação docente nas áreas de História Antiga, Arqueologia Clássica e Historia da Arte, atuando também em museologia, iconologia, semiótica, estudos do imaginário, história cultural e das ciências, epistemologia, história da cidade e estudos renascentistas. O autor é também ensaísta, colunista na imprensa, produtor e dirigente cultural e criador de música atual.
