Liza Maria Veiga

Liza M. Veiga has a Doctorate in Theory and Research of Primate Behaviour from the Federal University of Pará in Brazil (UFPA). Currently she a Post-doctorate Fellow (PNPD-CAPES), and Associate Researcher at the Emílio Goeldi Musum (MPEG), and Lecturer-Advisor in the Post-graduate Programme of Zoology at UFPA/MPEG. She is Regional Coordinator for the Neotropics - Brazilian Amazonia (Red List Authority Focal Point)Primate Specialist Group (PSG/SSC/IUCN), Coordinator of the Pitheciine Action Group (PAG), a Member of the Primate Specialist Group - ICUN/SSC, a Consultant of the International Committee for the Conservation and Management of Amazonian Primates of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity and member of the Editorial TEAM of Neotropical Primates. Her research interests are in the area of zoology and include the ecology, behaviour, geographic distribution and conservation of Amazonian primates (particularly the Pitheciidae) and the effects of habitat fragmentation. She also works with the inventory and monitoring of medium and large mammals in the Amazon using census (linear transects) and camera-trap methods.

Liza M. Veiga possui doutorado em Teoria e Pesquisa do Comportamento de Primatas pela Universidade Federal do Pará (UFPA). Atualmente é pós-doutoranda (PNPD-CAPES), pesquisadora associada ao Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi (MPEG) e professora-orientadora credenciada no Programa de Pós-graduação em Zoologia do convênio UFPA/MPEG. Ela é Coordenadora do Pitheciine Action Group (PAG), Coordenadora Regional para os Neotrópicos - Amazônia Brasileira e um Red List Authority Focal Point do Primate Specialist Group (PSG/SSC/IUCN), Consultora do Comitê Internacional para Conservação e Manejo de Primatas do ICMBio e membro do Corpo Editorial do Neotropical Primates e o Pitheciine Action Group Newsletter. Tem experiência na área de Zoologia, com ênfase em Primatologia, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: comportamento animal, ecologia, biogeografia, fragmentação de hábitat e conservação de primatas. Também trabalha com a realização de inventários e monitoramento de mamíferos de pequeno, médio e grande porte na Amazônia, utilizando as metodologias de armadilhas, censo (transecção linear), e camera-traps e recentemente estudos moleculares e morfologicas de primatas.
