Possui graduação em Física pela Universidade Federal do Ceará (1981) e Licenciatura em Física e Química pela Universidade Federal do Ceará (1983), mestrado em Física pela Universidade Federal do Ceará (1984), doutorado em Física pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (1990). E pós doutorado na Universidade de Southampton (UK). Atualmente é professor titular da Universidade Federal do Ceará. Tem experiência na área de Engenharia Elétrica, com ênfase em Materiais Dielétricos, Piezoelétricos e Ferroelétricos, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: comunicações ópticas, dispositivos de fibras ópticas, fibras ópticas, biomateriais e colágeno.
