Graduado em Medicina pela Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC, 1979), em Direito pela Universidade de Fortaleza (UNIFOR, 1987). Especialização em Patologia, Nutrologia e Estudos Clássicos. Aperfeiçoamento em Biossegurança pela FIOCRUZ. Treinamento em Compliance para Área da Saúde pela FGV EAESP. Mestrado em Patologia Tropical pela UFC. Doutorado em Saúde Pública pela UNINTER. Atualmente é professor do ensino superior concursado (1983) do Departamento de Patologia e Medicina Legal da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade Federal do Ceará. Desenvolve atividades nos seguintes temas: estudo da violência por causas externas; patologia ambiental; patologia do câncer gástrico; patologia dos radicais livres; Fotobiomodulação com LASER e LED; desnutrição; dietética; compliance e integridade na área da saúde; tratados do Corpus Hippocraticum e história da medicina. Autor de livros como: Sinopse de Medicina Legal; Estudo de Necropsias Forenses; Câncer Gástrico no Ceará; Hipócrates Deontológico, Inspirações; Seara de Asclépio; Paradigmas Éticos na Saúde Pública nos Códigos Brasileiros de Ética Médica; Ares, Águas e Lugares - Inspirações Hipocráticas; entre outros. Membro da Academia Internacional de Patologia, da Sociedade Brasileira de Nutrologia Médica e da Sociedade Brasileira de História da Medicina. Coordena o projeto de extensão da Universidade Federal do Ceará: "Preservação de Livros Históricos de Medicina".

Member of the International Academy of Pathology, the Brazilian Society of Medical Nutrology and the Brazilian Society for the History of Medicine. Coordinates the extension project of the Federal University of Ceará: "Preservation of Historical Books of Medicine".
