Dr. Agnaldo is a Full Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and Researcher at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) Medical School, as well as the President of the Brazilian Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics Associations (FEBRASGO) and the Director of the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists (AAGL). With over 20 years of experience in gynecologic surgery, he is a board member of multiple international societies and has published extensively in the field.After graduating from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in 1995, Dr. Agnaldo completed specialist training in General Surgery and Trauma and Obstetrics and Gynecology. He earned a PhD in Gynecology from Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) in 2004 and a post-doctorate in Biomechanics at the University of Porto - Portugal from 2007-2009. He also holds a certificate of professional recognition in Gynaecological Oncology from the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO).As President of FEBRASGO, Dr. Agnaldo oversaw the largest society of Gynecology and Obstetrics in Latin America, with 16,000 members, from 2019 to 2022. He also served as Vice President of the Southeast Region of the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB) from 2020-2022 and is a Board Member of AAGL representing the Mexico, Central, and South America regions. Dr. Agnaldo is a voting board member for the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) and the Federación Latinoamericana de Societies de Obstetrics (FLASOG) and is a member of several national and international medical societies, including AAGL, SGO, and ESGO.Dr. Agnaldo's expertise lies in Gynecologic Surgery with a focus on the continued advancement of research on Gynecological Cancer, Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques, Heavy Menstrual Bleeding, Endometriosis, and Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) Protocols. He has worked intensively in UFMG and UNESP for over 20 years, together with a highly specialized team in endoscopic surgery. His research activities include clinical and science research on the pathogenesis, assessment, and management of gynecological malignancies, clinical research on gynecologic conditions, and bioengineering and computer engineering for innovation and technology.Dr. Agnaldo has received over 60 medical and scientific awards and has been a project leader and participant in several Brazilian and European research projects. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 full papers in ISI Web of Knowledge or Medline indexed journals and has developed innovative medical products and technology in collaboration with bioengineering and computing, resulting in five patents. He has also coordinated 17 scientific books, authored over 80 chapters in other scientific books, and reviewed for a number of journals.With experience in organizing national and international scientific congresses and medical events, Dr. Agnaldo is currently coordinating the creation of standards for certification in robotic surgery in Gynecology and the subspecialties of Gynecologic Oncology and Female Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery in Brazil, in collaboration with FEBRASGO and AMB. As a professor of Gynecology, he works with graduate students, medical residents, and postgraduate students (Masters and Doctoral) to advance the field of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
Graduação em Medicina pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais - UFMG (1995), Residência Médica em Cirurgia Geral e do Trauma na Fundação Hospitalar do Estado de Minas Gerais - FHEMIG (1996-1998) e em Ginecologia e Obstetrícia no Hospital das Clínicas da UFMG (1999-2000). Doutorado em Ginecologia, Obstetrícia e Mastologia pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho - UNESP (2004) e Pós-Doutoramento na Universidade do Porto Portugal (2007-2009). Cargo de Professor Titular no Departamento de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia da Faculdade de Medicina da UFMG. Orientador de mestrado e doutorado nos programas de pós-graduação em Saúde da Mulher da UFMG, de Ciências Aplicadas àCirurgiae à Oftalmologia da UFMG e Tocoginecologia da UNESP. Lider do grupo de pesquisa Biologia molecular e imunologia do câncer ginecológico e atuação como consultor ad hoc para cerca de 30 revistas internacionais. Além disso, editor associado da RBGO Gynecology and Obstetrics e Femina. Acumula mais de 60 prêmios médicos e científicos e tem sido líder de projetos e participante em vários projetos de pesquisa no Brasil e exterior. É autor ou coautor de mais de 200 artigos completos em periódicos indexados no ISI Web of Knowledge ou Medline, tendo desenvolvido produtos e tecnologias médicas inovadoras em colaboração com a bioengenharia e a computação, resultando em quatro patentes. Coordenou 17 livros científicos, escreveu mais de 80 capítulos em outros livros científicos e atuou como revisor para diversas revistas. Atualmente, ocupa os cargos de Presidente da Federação Brasileira das Associações de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia (FEBRASGO), Vice-presidente da Região Sudeste da Associação Médica Brasileira (AMB) e Diretor da American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), representando o México, América Central e América do Sul. Certificação e Reconhecimento Profissional em Ginecologia Oncológica pela Sociedade Europeia de Oncologia Ginecológica (ESGO). Experiência na área de Medicina, com ênfase em cirurgia pélvica feminina, atuando nas áreas de Ginecologia Oncológica e Cirurgia Videolaparoscopia e Robótica.
