Cláudio Chaves Beato Filho

Full professor at the Department of Sociology at UFMG. Holds a Bachelor's degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1982), a Master's degree from the Brazilian Society of Instruction - SBI/IUPERJ (1986), and a Doctorate from the Brazilian Society of Instruction - SBI/IUPERJ (1992). Currently, he is the Coordinator of the CRISP - Center for Studies in Crime and Public Security. He received the National Scientific Merit Medal, awarded by the Ministry of Science and Technology. He was a Visiting Professor at Columbia University, NY, during the period of 2017-2018, at the Ruth Cardoso Chair. He was also a Visiting Scholar at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University and at the Centre of Brazilian Studies at Oxford University. He has mainly worked on the following topics: crime and violence, public security, public security policies, crime statistics, victimization research, police organizations, and urban crime analysis. He is a consultant in various Brazilian states and Latin American countries for the development of programs and projects for violence control and prevention. He is a consultant for the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and UNODC of the United Nations. He is currently the Coordinator of the CRISP, Center for Studies in Crime and Public Security at UFMG. In the Public Administration, he has already served as Municipal Secretary of Security and Prevention in Belo Horizonte, and Municipal Secretary of Economic Development in Belo Horizonte.

Professor titular do Departamento de Sociologia da UFMG. Possui graduação em pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1982), mestrado em pela Sociedade Brasileira de Instrução - SBI/IUPERJ (1986) e doutorado pela Sociedade Brasileira de Instrução - SBI/IUPERJ (1992). Atualmente é Coordenador do CRISP - Centro de Estudos em Criminalidade e Segurança Pública. Recebeu a Comenda do Mérito Científico Nacional, concedido pelo Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia. Foi Professor Visitante na Universidade de Columbia, NY, no período 2017-2018, na Cátedra Ruth Cardoso.Visiting Scholar no David Rockfeller Center for Latin American Studies, da Universidade de Harvard e do Centre of Brazilian Studies, da Oxford University. Tem atuado principalmente nos seguintes temas: criminalidade e violência, seguranca publica, políticas públicas de segurança, estatísticas criminalidade,pesqusias de vitimização, organizações policiais e análise urbana de crimes. É consultor em diversos estados brasileiros e países da América Latina para o desenvolvimento de programas e projetos de controle e prevenção da violência. Consultor do Banco Mundial, Banco Interamericano de Desenvolvimento e UNODC das Nações Unidas. Atualmente é coordenador do CRISP, Centro de Estudos em Criminalidade e Segurança Pública da UFMG. Na administração Pública, já foi Secretário Municipal de Segurança e Prevenção em Belo Horizonte, e Secretário Municipal de Desenvolvimento Econômico de Belo Horizonte
