Francismar Alex Lopes de Carvalho

Atualmente é Procientista UERJ, Jovem Cientista do Nosso Estado/FAPERJ e pesquisador da Fundação Alexander von Humboldt. Foi Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq, Nível 2, entre 2019 e 2022. Entre 2019 e 2021, foi Alexander von Humboldt research fellow na Universidade de Bonn (Alemanha). Professor Adjunto do Departamento de História e do Programa de Pós-Graduação em História da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Research Fellow na Benson Latin American Collection da University of Texas em Austin (2017) e Visiting Scholar na Vanderbilt University, Estados Unidos (2016). Pós-doutor em História da América pela Universidade de Sevilha, Espanha (2013-2016). Doutor em História pela Universidade de São Paulo (2012), com estágios de doutorado sanduíche na Universidade de Sevilha, Espanha, e na Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Portugal. Vencedor do Prêmio Científico Casa da América Latina/ Santander Totta, para a melhor Tese de Doutorado na categoria de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (2014). Vencedor do "Slicher Van Bath De Jong Fund for the advancement of study and research on the history of Latin America", para o melhor projeto de investigação de 2014, concedido pelo Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation, Amsterdã, Holanda. Publicou quatro livros autorais e vários artigos em revistas especializadas (peer-reviewed journals) sobre missões jesuíticas, governança nos impérios ibéricos, história da Amazônia e da formação territorial da América portuguesa (séc. XVII-XVIII).

Currently holding the positions of Procientista UERJ and Jovem Cientista do Nosso Estado/FAPERJ, as well as being a researcher for the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Carvalho is a Professor at the Department of History and the Graduate Program in History at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). He was designated as a CNPq Research Productivity Fellow, Level 2, from 2019 to 2022, and served as an Alexander von Humboldt research fellow at the University of Bonn in Germany from 2019 to 2021. Moreover, he was a Research Fellow at the Benson Latin American Collection at the University of Texas at Austin in 2017, and a Visiting Scholar at Vanderbilt University in the United States in 2016. His postdoctoral fellowship in Latin American History at the University of Seville in Spain spanned from 2013 to 2016. Having received a PhD in History from the University of São Paulo in 2012, Carvalho honed his research skills during sandwich doctoral internships at the University of Seville in Spain and the Technical University of Lisbon in Portugal. His groundbreaking work has been recognized with numerous grants and awards, including the Scientific Award Casa da América Latina/ Santander Totta for the best Doctoral Thesis in the category of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2014, and the "Slicher Van Bath De Jong Fund for the advancement of study and research on the history of Latin America" for the best research project of 2014, awarded by the Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation in Amsterdam, Netherlands. With a focus on the history of the Amazon, the territorial formation of Portuguese America, governance in Iberian empires, and Jesuit missions, Carvalho has authored four books and several articles in peer-reviewed journals.
