William Barbosa Gomes

Foi Bolsista Produtividade CNPq de 1988 a 2019, onde chegou a Pesquisador 1A entre 2006-2019. É professor aposentado do Instituto de Psicologia da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), onde lecionou entre 1995-2015. Atualmente é Fellow Senior no Programa de Pós-graduação em Psicologia da UFRGS. Seus interesses em pesquisa continuam voltados para Fenomenologia Experimental e Cognição, e para Epistemologia e História da Psicologia. É reconhecido pela sua inserção em diversos campos aplicados da psicologia e por assumir visão abrangente e integrada de teorias e métodos. Foi um dos introdutores da pesquisa qualitativa no Brasil e tem sido considerado um metodólogo, por suas articulações sistemáticas e sistêmicas entre métodos quantitativos e qualitativos. Quanto à formação, obteve os graus de Bacharel e Psicólogo pela Universidade Católica de Pernambuco (1971); de Mestre em Reabilitação Psicológica (1980) e de Doutor em Higher Education pela Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (1983). Participou de atividades de pós-doutorado no Departamento de Speech Communication da Southern Illinois University (1995) com Richard Lanigan e no Departamento de Psicologia da Universidade de Michigan (2006), com Wilhelm J. McKeachie. Concluiu curso de pós-graduação lato sensu em Aconselhamento Psicológico pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas (1977); graduou-se em Música pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (1971), havendo atuado em orquestras sinfônicas como oboista e em igrejas como regente de coro e organista. Iniciou suas atividades de docência e pesquisa na antiga Fundação Educacional, atual UNESP-Bauru, SP, em 1973. Lecionou psicologia na Universidade Federal de Santa Maria - RS, (1984). Foi fundador e primeiro coordenador do Centro de Psicologia Aplicada da atual UNESP-Bauru; foi fundador e primeiro editor de PSICOLOGIA: REFLEXÃO E CRÍTICA, foi membro da comissão de reorganização do Curso de Mestrado da PUCRS, foi um dos fundadores do Curso de Mestrado e de Doutorado da UFRGS, foi um dos autores da proposta dos Grupos de Trabalho (GT) por temas na ANPEPP. Foi Presidente da Associação Nacional de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação em Psicologia - gestão 2012-2014. Participou da diretoria da Sociedade Brasileira de Psicologia, sendo conselheiro eleito por vários mandatos. Foi membro da Comissão de Especialistas em Psicologia da SESU-MEC (1995-2002). Foi membro correspondente da Academia de Psicologia de São Paulo, e é representante brasileiro no International Institute of Communicology - com sede em Washington ? USA. É sócio fundador da Sociedade Brasileira de História de Psicologia. Continua vinculado, mesmo à distância, ao GT História da Psicologia da ANPEPP, tendo coordenado o grupo entre 2006 e 2012.

He was a CNPq Productivity Scholar from 1988 to 2019, completed his term as a Researcher 1A. He is currently a retired professor at the Institute of Psychology at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), where he taught between 1995-2015. His collaboration with UFRGS continues as a Senior Fellow of the Postgraduate Program in Psychology. His research interests continue to focus on Experimental Phenomenology and Cognition, and on Epistemology and History of Psychology. He is recognized for his insertion in several applied fields of psychology and for taking a comprehensive and integrated view of theories and methods. He was one of the introducers of qualitative research in Brazil and has been considered a methodologist, with systematic and systemic articulations between quantitative and qualitative criteria. As for training, he obtained Bachelor's and Psychologist degrees from the Universidade Católica de Pernambuco (1971); Master in Psychological Rehabilitation (1979-1980); and PhD in Higher Education (1980-1983) from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He participated in postdoctoral activities in the Department of Speech Communication at Southern Illinois University (1995) with Richard Lanigan and in the Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan (2006), with Wilhelm J. McKeachie. At the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) he took a lato sensu postgraduate course in Psychological Counseling (1974-1977). He also graduated in music from the Federal University of Pernambuco (1971), having worked in symphony orchestras as an oboist and in churches as a choir conductor and organist. He started his teaching and research activities at the former Fundação Educacional, now Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) ? Campus-Bauru at 1973. He also taught psychology at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria - RS, in 1984. He was the founder and first coordinator of the Center for Applied Psychology of the current UNESP-Bauru, and the founder and first editor of PSYCHOLOGY: REFLECTION AND CRITICS. He was a member of the reorganization committee to the Master's Course at PUCRS, a founder of the Master's and Doctorate Course at UFRGS, and one of the proponents for the organization in working groups by themes at ANPEPP - National Association of Research and Graduate Studies in Psychology. He was President of the ANPEPP between 2012 and 2014. He served on the board of the Brazilian Society of Psychology for several terms. He was a member of the Committee of Experts in Psychology at SESU-MEC (1995-2002). He was a corresponding member of the São Paulo Academy of Psychology, and is a Brazilian representative at the International Institute of Communicology - based in Washington - USA. He is a founding partner of the Brazilian Society of Psychological History. He remains linked, even at a distance, to the ANPEPP History of Psychology working group, having coordinated the group between 2006 and 2012.
