Marcileida Maria Dos Santos

As a trained conservationist and specialist in amphibian conservation, I am interested in multiples aspects of conservation efforts towards minimising global biodiversity loss. I believe that scientific collaboration is the key to progress in the conservation of species. I have a broad interest in conservation and has worked with a variety of species. Prior to my PhD, I have worked in Education for over 20 years and on the past 15 years on the ground-conservation in Brazil, New Zealand and the UK. I have been involved in a number of NGOs and outreach project nationally and internationally. I have extensive experience as an educator both for secondary and tertiary levels in Brazil, New Zealand and in the United Kingdom. I have also led environmental education, citizen science and outreach programmes for several years, nationally and internationally.As well as academic writing I enjoy exploring my creative side to engage the public in conservation. Some of my work involved creating a YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JnK2BQRTus) about the global amphibian population declines. I enjoy working in collaboration and some of my published work involves a diverse research field. I am a Secretariat for the IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group, and my role involves coordinates and provides support to the ASG Regional Groups and ACAP Thematic Working Groups. To develop and support the Amphibian Conservation Action Plan (ACAP) into a framework to inform amphibian conservation action. Represent the ASG as a whole in international forums, and directly oversees ASG Communications via FrogLog, social media and the ASG website. I am a lead contact for the Communication & Education ACAP Thematic Working Groups.
