Carlos Eduardo Barra Couri

In 2001 Carlos Eduardo Barra Couri graduated in the Medical School of the University of Juiz de Fora - Brazil and specialized in Endocrinology in the University of São Paulo in 2004. He obtained his PhD degree at the University of São Paulo in 2006 studing the relatioship between type 2 diabetes and silent atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Carlos Eduardo Barra Couri is endocrinologist and clinical researcher in the Unit of Stem Cell Therapy of Hospital das Clínicas of Ribeirão Preto - University of São Paulo - Brazil - since 2004. He is responsible for clinical management of research protocols involving stem cell therapy in humans with diabetes mellitus. This group, created by professor Julio Voltarelli, is the first in the world to test the effects of stem cell therapy in humans with diabetes (2004). He has vast experience in autologous hematopoietic stem cell therapy and alogeneic mesenchymal cell therapy both in newly-diagnosed individuals with type 1 diabetes. His original researches were published in distinguished and highly relevant journals such as JAMA, Bone Marrow Transplantation, etc.Currently, Carlos Eduardo Barra Couri is the founder/chairman of 2 important scientific congresses in Brazil called: ENDODEBATE (focued in discussing the most recent advances endocrinology) and DIACORDIS (focused in discussing the interface between diabetes and cardiometabolism). In parallel, he is the writer of the column entitled THE FUTURE OF DIABETES of the site and magazine VEJA SAÚDE of Editora Abril. The objetctive of the column is to empower population with information to prevent and treat diabetes.
