Professor Titular da Universidade de São Paulo. Doutor em Química (2001) pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco com doutorado sanduiche no Scripps Research Institute, EUA sob orientação conjunta dos Professores Ricardo Ferreira e Arthur Olson.Durante o doutorado Realizou visitas de 1 ano à University of Houston (1999-2000) (supervisão do Prof. James Briggs) e ao Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (2000) (supervisão do Dr. T.P. Straatsma). Realizou Pós-doutoramentos no ETH-Zürich (2001-2003) e EPFL-Lausanne (2004-2005), Suíça. Atuou profissionalmente como Senior Research Scientist no Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, USA (2005-2009), Professor da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (2010-2021). Em 2020 tornou-se Professor Titular da Universidade de São Paulo. Atua ainda como professor convidado da University of Oslo, Noruega no período (2021-2026), tendo previamente atuado como pesquisador convidado em várias instituições internacionais (EPFL, Suíça; Umeå University, Suécia; National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Japão, e University of Oslo, Noruega). Desde 2020 atua como editora associada do Journal of Chemical Information da American Chemical Society. Seu interesse científico está centrado na aplicação de métodos e simulações computacionais para a investigação de processos biomoleculares e para a interpretação de observações experimentais à partir de uma perspectiva molecular (http://www.biomatsite.net).
Thereza A. Soares received her bachelor degree in Biological Sciences from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (1994). Subsequently she pursued graduate studies in Chemistry, earning her Masters degree from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (1996) and Doctorate in an exchange program of the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco and The Scrippst Research Institute (2004). During the exchange program she held visiting scholarships at the group of Prof. James Briggs at the University of Houston and at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. In 2001 she moved to Switzerland to undertake her post-doctoral training at the groups of Prof. Wilfred van Gunsteren in the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich - ETH (2001-2004) and Prof. Kai Johnsson in the École Politecnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) (2005). Since October 2005 she has been a research scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, WA, USA. Prof. Soares? major research interest is in the application of computational chemistry methodologies, in particular molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, with the aim of understanding biomolecular phenomena or processes, or in order to help interpret experimental observations. Her current research work deals with atomistic simulations of lipopolysaccharides membranes/outer membranes proteins.
