G. B. de Souza received his degree in Physics from State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG) in 1997, and the MSc and PhD degrees in Materials Science & Engineering from Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) in 2001 and 2010, respectively. From 2002 to 2011, he had a lecturer position, initially, and then was assistant professor at the State University of Maringá (UEM). In 2011, he joined the Department of Physics at UEPG, Brazil, where presently he is associate professor. Materials Physics is the field of study, with an emphasis on surfaces, thin films and interfaces. Most of the studies comprise at least one of these three specialities: plasma-based ion implantation; biocompatible and bioactive coatings; and the atomic-scale processes governing the mechanics of surfaces and interfaces at the micro and nanoscale. Some characterization techniques of interest and expertise are the instrumented indentation, nuclear, electron and photon-based methods and in-situ evaluation of physical properties.

Graduado em Licenciatura Em Física pela Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa (1997), possui mestrado (2001) e doutorado (2010) em Ciência e Engenharia de Materiais pela Universidade Federal do Paraná. É professor associado da Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa. Atua na área de Física de Materiais, com ênfase em superfícies, filmes finos e interfaces. Os estudos realizados compreendem uma destas especialidades, bem como a sua inter-relação: implantação iônica assistida por plasma; revestimentos biocompatíveis e bioativos; e propriedades mecânicas de superfícies e interfaces em micro e nanoescala. Possui experiência e interesse em métodos de caracterização de materiais, especialmente em indentação instrumentada, processos de interação de fótons e elétrons com a matéria e estudos in situ de propriedades físicas.
