Sergio Costa

After studying economics (1980-1985) at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, he obtained the Mestrado (1989-1991) in sociology at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (focus: social movements and democratisation). This was followed by a doctorate (1992-1995) at the Department of Sociology at the Free University of Berlin and a habilitation at the Department of Politics and Social Sciences in 2005. Since February 2008 he has been a university professor for the sociology of Latin America at the Freie Universität Berlin - Institute for Sociology and at the Latin America Institute (LAI). Após estudar Economia (1980-1985) na Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, obteve o Mestrado (1989-1991) em Sociologia na Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (foco: movimentos sociais e democratização). Seguiu-se um doutorado (1992-1995) no Departamento de Sociologia da Universidade Livre de Berlim e uma habilitação no Departamento de Política e Ciências Sociais em 2005. Desde fevereiro de 2008 ele é professor universitário de sociologia da América Latina na Freie Universität Berlin - Instituto de Sociologia e no Instituto Latino-Americano (LAI).
