Marina Pedroso Correia

Marina Correia is an architect and a professor at the Architecture Department of the School of Architecture and Urbanism of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro since 2018. She currently teaches and coordinates an interdisciplinar design studio, Integrated Studio I, coordinates the National Museum: Design Action and Counter-Visualizations initiative, is a member of the Board for the Nucleus of Research and Documentation of FAU-UFRJ (NPD), a member of the research group Critical Thinking and Contemporary City of FAU-USP and editor of the website of the Architecture Department of FAU-UFRJ. She obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree in Architecture from The City University of New York (2006), holds a Master Degree in Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design (2013) and a Ph.D. from the School of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo (2018). Her current research focuses on architectural design and its theoretical unfoldings in the fields of criticism, geographic aesthetics, memory and politics, with emphasis on a field of knowledge that emerges from architectural operations towards the construction of an ethical and aesthetic understanding of the contemporary city. Her recent publications include the book "Ecological Urbanism in Latin America" ​​(Harvard Graduate School of Design and GG, Barcelona, ​​2019) and the text "The Plinth and The Vertical Belvedere: Identities of the Inverted Babel" (Oblique, A Journal on Critical Conservation, vol.2, Cambridge, 2018). Her doctoral thesis, Miniature Volume: John Hejduk and Venice, explores through the work of the American architect John Hejduk the critical dimension of architecture in the late 20th century, presenting the close relationship between poetic language and the socio-political agenda of his work. Between 2004 and 2014 she was a collaborator at Isay Weinfeld (São Paulo), SOM (San Francisco), Corea Moran Arquitectura (Barcelona) and 1100: Architect (New York), among others. Since 2013, her professional practice as an architect supports actions for the democratization of culture and education and develops projects in the fields of architecture, urban design, interiors and exhibition architecture.

Marina Correia é arquiteta e professora de projeto de arquitetura na Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro desde 2018. Atualmente é coordenadora e professora de Projeto de Arquitetura 02 (Atelier Integrado I), coordena a iniciativa Museu Nacional: Ação Projetual e Contra-Visualizações, é membro do Conselho para o Núcleo de Pesquisa e Documentação da FAU-UFRJ, membro do grupo de pesquisa Pensamento Crítico e Cidade Contemporânea da FAU-USP e editora do site do Departamento de Projeto de Arquitetura da FAU-UFRJ. Formada em 2006 em Arquitetura pela The City University of New York, obteve título de mestrado em Arquitetura pela Harvard University Graduate School of Design em 2013 e título de Doutorado na Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo em 2018. Sua pesquisa atual concentra-se em projeto de arquitetura e seus desdobramentos teóricos nos campos da crítica, estética geográfica, memória e política, buscando evidenciar o campo de conhecimento que parte das operações projetuais para a construção de um entendimento ético e estético da cidade contemporânea. Suas publicações mais recentes são o livro ?Urbanismo Ecológico na América Latina? (Harvard Graduate School of Design e Editora GG, Barcelona, 2019) e o texto "The Plinth and The Vertical Belvedere: Identities of the Inverted Babel" (Oblique, A Journal on Critical Conservation, vol. 2, Cambridge, 2018). Sua tese de doutorado, "Volume em Miniatura: John Hejduk e Veneza", explora através da obra do arquiteto americano John Hejduk a dimensão crítica da arquitetura no final do século 20, apresentando a relação estreita entre a linguagem poética e o alcance político-social de sua obra. Entre 2004 e 2014 foi colaboradora nos escritórios de arquitetura Isay Weinfeld (São Paulo), SOM (San Francisco), Corea Moran Arquitectura (Barcelona) e 1100: Architect (Nova York), dentre outros. Desde 2013 sua atuação profissional como arquiteta apoia práticas de democratização da cultura e da educação e atua nas áreas de edificação, desenho urbano, interiores e arquitetura expositiva.
