Profile
Manuel Hurtado's research and teaching bring together Systematic Theology and Theology of Religions with a special interest in Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue with South Amerindian Cultures and Religions in the horizon and inspiration of his theological research.
After earning his doctorate in Theology (Centre Sèvres, Paris, France), has been teaching Christology and Theology of Religions at Jesuit School of Theology in Belo Horizonte, Brazil and Catholic University in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He also teaches Systematic Theology of Mission at the Latin-American Institute of Missiology, Cochabamba, Bolivia. He is associate editor of Theologica Latinoamericana. Digital Encyclopedia.
In 2015, he spent his sabbatical at HDS/CSWR for studying the methods of Comparative Theology because reviewing those which are being used currently may help reflect on what might be the best road map for comparative or interreligious and intercultural theology, as it is being referred to in some parts of Europe and Latin America.
Hurtado has also a growing interest to relate Christian spirituality to other spiritualities, as a way to accomplish a Practical Dialogue of religious experience, particularly within indigenous spiritualities. He is a Bolivian Roman Catholic priest and a member of the Society of Jesus, where he has served in a variety of Jesuit works including spiritual direction, parishes? assistance and formation of young Jesuits.
