Alvaro Luiz Gayoso de Azeredo Coutinho

Prof. Alvaro L. G. A. Coutinho, pesquisador CNPq 1A, Cientista do Nosso Estado FAPERJ (2017-), possui graduação em Engenharia Civil pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1980), mestrado (1984) e doutorado (1987) em Engenharia Civil pela COPPE/Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1984). Professor visitante no Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, the University of Texas at Austin, USA (2004). Professor Titular (2001), Diretor Financeiro (2006-2008), Diretor Adjunto de Tecnologia e Inovação (2004-2008) da COPPE/UFRJ onde atualmente coordena a Área Interdisciplinar de Engenharia e Ciência Computacional e dirige o Núcleo Avançado de Computação de Alto Desempenho. É membro de corpo editorial do Int J for Numerical Methods in Fluids, Int J for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Comp Meth in Applied Mechanics and Engineering, Editor Associado da Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería, consultor da Fundação COPPETEC. É membro fundador da Associação Brasileira de Métodos Computacionais em Engenharia, fazendo parte atualmente do seu Conselho Deliberativo. É Membro do Comitê Executivo da International Association for Computational Mechanics. Recebeu o IBM Faculty Award (2001), o Prêmio COPPE de Mérito Acadêmico 2007, e Fellow da International Association of Computational Mechanics (2012). Em 2015 recebeu o Prêmio InRio Personalidades do Ano da Assespro RJ.

Professor of Civil Engineering, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Graduate in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1980), MSc in Civil Engineering (1984), and DSc. in Civil Engineering (1987), both from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Visiting Professor at the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, the University of Texas at Austin, USA, under the prestigious JTO Faculty Fellowship Research Program (2004). Member of the editorial board of the Int J for Numerical Methods in Fluids, Int J for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Comp Meth in App Mechanics and Engineering, Associated Editor of the Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería. He is a founding member of the Brazilian Association of Computational Methods in Engineering, serving on its Council. Fellow (2012) and Member of the Executive Council, the International Association for Computational Mechanics. Recipient of the IBM Faculty Award (2001) and COPPE Academic Award in 2007. He is the recipient of the 2015 InRio Personality of the Year from Assepro-RJ. Prof Coutinho's current research interests are finite elements, parallel computing, computational solid and fluid mechanics, multiphysics, and multiscale problems.
