Daniel Martins Moreira

Dr. Daniel M. Moreira is a full-time Assistant Professor of Urology at University of Illinois at Chicago. He received his Medical Degree from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil and his Masters of Health Science in Clinical Research from Duke University in North Carolina. After medical school, Dr. Moreira completed a residency in Urology at North Shore-Long Island Jewish in New York, and a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.Dr. Moreira specializes in the surgical management of all urologic cancers including prostate, kidney, bladder, testicular, penile and adrenal malignancies. He also specializes in the diagnosis and management of ureteral and retroperitoneal tumors, elevated PSA, transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy and hematuria. Dr. Moreira utilizes open, laparoscopic, robotic and minimally invasive techniques and newer technologies including therapies only available in clinical trials and as well as complex surgery for advanced cancers. He emphasizes the multidisciplinary cancer care approach, working closely with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, diagnostic and interventional radiology.Dr. Moreira is committed to providing the highest level of compassionate, comprehensive, patient-centered urological care; from both a clinical and an academic perspective. He has a background in biostatistics, outcomes and health services research with particular interests in patient-centered outcomes research, risk stratification, and cancer epidemiology for prostate and kidney cancers. His research in treatment outcomes, cancer-related health disparities, and prostate cancer care quality has been funded by the Department of Defense.Outside the clinic, Dr. Moreira has coauthored over 100 publications and presented over 175 abstracts in national and international medical meetings. He received the John Blandy award in 2011 for the best collection of research manuscripts published in the British Journal of Urology. He is also an active member of numerous professional medical societies including the American Urological Association and Society of Urologic Oncology. He serves as a reviewer for the most prestigious urological journals such as European Urology, Journal of Urology, Urology, and many others. He enjoys having an active role in the medical education of residents and medical students at UIC.
Possui formação no ensino fundamental e ensino médio pelo Instituto Porto Alegre (1995), graduação em Medicina pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (2001), residência médica pelo Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (2007) e North Shore-Long Island Jewish (2013) nas áreas de Cirurgia Geral e Urologia. Foi research fellow na Duke University (2010). Possui mestrado em pesquisa clinica pela Duke University (2014) e fellowship clínico em Uro-oncologia pela Mayo Clinic (2016). Possui experiência na área de Medicina, com ênfase em Cirurgia Urológica, atuando principalmente como médico clínico, cirurgião e pesquisador nas seguintes áreas: uro-oncologia, cancer urológico, cancer de próstata, cancer renal, cancer de bexiga, cancer de testículo, cancer da adrenal, epidemiologia e bioestatística. Atualmente é professor na Univeristy of Illinois at Chicago desde 2016.
