Ariane Coelho Brotto
Ariane C. Brotto earned her M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Engineering from Columbia University (New York, USA) sponsored by the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. Dr. Brotto also holds the M.Sc. honors in Geochemistry, B.Sc. and Lic. in Chemistry all from the Fluminense Federal University (UFF) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her research interests lies at the intersection of sanitation, water quality and climate change. As part of her work under the advisement of Dr. Kartik Chandran, she investigated engineered microbial community structure and function in response to operational conditions leading to direct production of greenhouse gases from biological nitrogen removal processes. With her research she offered a biological approach that can eventually result in better design and control of engineered systems for water quality and reduced carbon footprint. Dr. Brotto also collaborates with the Rio-Columbia Innovation Hub with its first Water Design Challenge as a mentor. With her expertise and enthusiasm with the environment and the urban context, Dr. Brotto hope to influence cities to improve their approach to water and sanitation with focus on sustainability. Dr. Brotto is now Project Manager with the New York City?s Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP).
graduation at Licenciatura em Química from Universidade Federal Fluminense (2009), graduation at Bacharel em Química from Universidade Federal Fluminense (2011), master's at Geology from Universidade Federal Fluminense (2011) and doctorate at Earth and Environmental Engineering from Columbia University (2016). He is currently project manager at New York City Department of Environmental Protection. Has experience in Civil Engineering, acting on the following subjects: óxido nitroso, fluxo, nitrous oxide, mudanças climáticas and inibidores de incrustação.
