As an Industrial Chemist from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ (1966), and Ph.D. on Chemistry from the University of Campinas ? UNICAMP (infrared spectroscopy, 1975), Bassi enjoyed an one year long post-doctoral stay at the Quantum Theory Project of the University of Florida (quantum chemistry, 1977). Presently, his research and graduated student advising activities are on: (1) education on thermodinamics, including the link between Gibbs thermodynamics and continuum mechanics concepts, (2) applications of the temporal thermodynamics of homogeneous processes to non-stable liquids (overheated, overcooled, and vitreous liquids), and (3) continuum mechanics applications to bodies undergoing physical and chemical transformations. At the University of Campinas, Bassi served as a Coordinator of the Bachelor of Science/Chemistry Course, Chemistry Institute Director, Graduation Courses Vice-Rector, and elected member of the University Council.
