Robert Frouin
Dr. Frouin is a Research Scientist in the Scripps Institution of oceanography. His expertise is in radiation transfer and inverse problems related to light scattering. He has over twenty-five years of experience in satellite remote sensing, specializing in atmospheric correction, estimation of climate variables (sea surface temperature, surface radiation fluxes, rainfall rate, ocean color, water vapor amount, aerosol properties), and analysis of geophysical phenomena. As a member of the NASA Ocean Color Research Team, the NOAA-NASA NPP, CNES POLDER, JAXA GLI and SGLI, and KORDI GOCI Science Teams, and a MERIS investigator, he has been developing atmospheric correction schemes for ocean-color imagery, checking the calibration of ocean-color sensors, and evaluating ocean-color products. His research activities include the study of interactions between phytoplankton and climate. During 1994-1996 Dr. Frouin managed NASA's Ocean Biogeochemistry Program and served as the Program Scientist for SeaWiFS and MODIS. He also conceived the International Ocean-Colour Coordinating Group.
