Leandro Manzoni Vieira

I obtained master?s degree (2008) and PhD (2012) in Zoology from the University of São Paulo (USP, São Paulo, Brazil), and subsequently held post-doctoral research position (2013?2014) at Center for Marine Biology (CEBIMar, USP). Over this time, I have studied the diversity of marine bryozoan fauna from around the world, applying a refined skeletal morphology as framework for phylogenetic classifications and to understand their evolutionary and biogeographic trends. Since 2015, I am associate researcher at the CEBIMar (NP-BioMar, USP). Since 2014, I have been a Professor at the Zoology Department at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE, Recife, Brazil), and Research Leader of the Laboratório de Estudos de Bryozoa - LAEBry, a multi-institutional group focused on the understanding of bryozoan biodiversity and promote taxonomy knowledge and scientific skills among undergraduate and graduate students. I served as the Head of the Zoology Department for two years (2017-2019). In 2021, I have been appointed Scientific Associate at the Natural History Museum, London, UK, leading on research projects focusing on taxonomy, systematics, and evolution of bryozoans. I am the Thematic Coordinator of the Taxonomic Catalog of the Brazilian Fauna (TCBF) and the Thematic Editor (Bryozoa) of the World Register of Introduced Marine Species (WRiMS), which is regularly updated for assessing the validity of species records and critically evaluating species identification. I am one of the coordinating authors of the Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology, Part G, Bryozoa, Part 3: Cheilostomatida, which involves more than 20 researchers from around the world and aims to make available data on all cheilostome genera. In my current role, my research focuses on characterizing biodiversity and understanding the evolutionary trends and biogeography of marine bryozoans, promoting open science.
Atualmente é Editor (Thematic editor: Bryozoa) do World Register of Introduced Marine Species (WRiMS).
