Gabriel Augusto Rodrigues de Melo

Graduado em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa (1990), Mestre em Genética e Melhoramento pela Universidade Federal de Viçosa (1992) e Doutor em Entomologia pela University of Kansas (1998). Atualmente é professor titular da Universidade Federal do Paraná, chefe do Departamento de Zoologia (2021-2023) e vice-presidente da Sociedade Brasileira de Entomologia (2023-2024). Atuou como editor-chefe da Revista Brasileira de Entomologia (2013-2014) e presidente da Sociedade Brasileira de Entomologia (2011-2012; 2019-2020; 2021-2022). Atua na área de Zoologia, com ênfase em Taxonomia dos Grupos Recentes, trabalhando principalmente com a sistemática de Hymenoptera, em particular de abelhas e vespas da superfamília Apoidea da região Neotropical.

He graduated with a B.Sc. in Biology (1989) and a M.Sc. degree in Genetics (1992) from Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil, and received a Ph.D. degree in Entomology from University of Kansas (1998). Since 2000, he is Professor at the Department of Zoology of the Federal University of Paraná, in Curitiba, and has served as Chair of their Graduate Program in Entomology (2006-2008). His research has focused in the phylogeny, systematics and biogeography of Hymenoptera, in particular of the bee fauna of the Neotropical region. He has published over 130 papers in refereed journals and edited four books, the most recent the book "Insetos do Brasil: Diversidade e Taxonomia", a work that has been awarded the ?Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira? prize (2014) by the Brazilian Society of Zoology. He has served as Secretary (2000-2004), Vice-President (2005-2008; 2023-2024), and President (2011-2012; 2019-2020; 2021-2022) of the Sociedade Brasileira de Entomologia (SBE). He has also been Editor-in-Chief (2013-2014) of the Revista Brasileira de Entomologia, published by SBE.
