Dra Ondina Fachel Leal

Anthropologist, retired as Full Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Social Anthropology Graduate Program (1986-2016). She holds Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley (Leal, O. F. The Gauchos: Male Culture and Identity in the Pampas. PhD dissertation, UC Berkeley, 1989). In 1997, she was a medical anthropology post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard University Medical School. From January 2000 to December 2006; she has worked as a Program Officer for the Ford Foundation?s Sexuality and Reproductive Health Program in Brazil. She has served in various international committees, such as the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria?s Technical Review Panel (TRP); the Reproductive Health Committee World Health Organization?s (WHO); and the IUSSP?s Scientific Panel on Reproductive Health. She has longstanding research and teaching experience in anthropology applied to health; medical anthropology; reproductive health, sexuality, and gender; occupational health and safety culture in large companies; and intellectual property. More recent research project was "Safety Culture: socio-anthropological study of worker vulnerability to industrial risk?, supported by Brazil?s National Scientific Research Council (CNPq) (2010-16). De 1998 até 2014, foi membro de comitê de pesquisa em Ciências Sociais e Saúde Reprodutiva - World Health Organization (WHO) em Genebra. Foi membro Technical Review Panel (TRP) do The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Genebra (2009-2014). Visiting scholar junto ao Anthropology Department, University of Georgia (UGA) com Bolsa CNPq Estágio Sênior no Exterior- ESN (2014-15). Aposentou-se da UFRGS em março de 2016. Tem experiência na área de antropologia aplicada à saúde; antropologia médica; saúde reprodutiva, sexualidade e gênero; saúde ocupacional e cultura segurança em empresas de grande porte e Propriedade Intelectual.
