Bacharel de Artes em Fisiologia e Psicologia - St. Johns' College (1967). Doutorado em Fisiologia - University College London (1970). É Chefe de Grupo de Pesquisa do Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry e da SUNY School of Optometry. Temas de pesquisa: Neurofisiologia, Neurociência Visual, Visão de Cores, Eletrofisiologia e Neurobiologia do Sistema Visual de Primatas, Eletrofisiologia e Psicofísica Humana, Ressonância Magnética Funcional do Sistema Visual.

He is Research Group Leader of the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry (Göttingen, Germany) and of the SUNY School of Optometry (New York, USA). Research interests: Neurophysiology, Visual Neuroscience, Color Vision, Primate Electrophysiology and Neurobiology, Human Electrophysiology and Pscyhophysics, Functional RMN of the Visual System.
