Luis Miguel Mazorra Morales
I am a scientific researcher interested in crop physiology and biochemistry. My main contributions cover basic and applied topics related to studies on physiological effects of plant hormones and abiotic stress in crop plants (tomato, rice, papaya fruits, etc). Also, I have been focused on elucidating the biochemical mechanisms behind fruit ripening and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) synthesis. I have had experience in the development of active products (based on plant hormonal compounds and antioxidants) for use in crop agriculture. As part of our works, formulations of compounds such as brasinosteroids, aminoacids and antioxidant precursors have been tested and validated as anti-stress protectors and growth stimulators. our current research activity has been in parallel with the organization of scientific seminars, evaluation of thesis projects and co-supervision of several postgraduate students (MSc and PhD) at UENF. In addition to be enrolled within the academic sector, I have worked as independent consultant in the transfer of research results for private biotechnological companies in Argentina. I obtained my PhD in biological sciences (University of Havana, Cuba) and had research stays and/or postdoctoral positions at academic institutions from Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom, Argentine, Venezuela and Brazil. Our research results have been disseminated throughout peer-reviewed papers, books, scientific meeting and research reports.
