Reinaldo Martínez Palhares joined the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in 2002 where he is currently a Full Professor.
Palhares earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UNICAMP in 1998. After completing his Ph.D.,
Palhares held a position as Professor at PUC/Minas from 1998 to 2002. At UFMG he had served as the Chair of The Electrical Engineering Graduate Program (2009-2013). Palhares was a
Visiting Professor in several Universities including:
Harbin Institute of Technology, HIT (China),
Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France, UPHF (France), and the
University of California at San Diego, UCSD (USA).
Palhares has been serving as Associate Editor for
IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON FUZZY SYSTEMS (IEEE TFS - since 2021) and
IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS (IEEE TIE - since 2014).
Palhares has also served as Guest Editor for several Journals as: IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics - Special Section on
Artificial Intelligence in Industrial Systems; IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics - Focused Section on

Palhares is member of the

Palhares is member of the: IFAC Technical Committee on Computational Intelligence in Control (TC 3.2); IFAC Technical Committee on Fault Detection, Supervision Safety of Technical Processes - SAFEPROCESS (TC 6.4); IEEE-IES Technical Committee on Data-Driven Control and Monitoring (TC-DDCM); and IEEE-CSS Technical Committee on Robust and Optimal Control (TC-RoCS).
Palhares has also been a reviewer for more than 50 International Journals and he has revised around 250 papers along the last years. Broadly,
Palhares' main research interests include Robust Control; Fault Detection, Diagnostics and Prognostics; and Artificial Intelligence.
Palhares has published near 150 peer reviewed papers in flagship Journals.
