Giorgio Francesco Cesare de Tomi

Dr. De Tomi has a degree in mining engineering from the University of Sao Paulo, PhD from Imperial College, London and MSc from Southern Illinois University, USA. Has experience in mining, digital transformation and innovation management. The areas of expertise include mine planning and scheduling, technical mining software, mine automation, management of the mine value chain, mining governance, lean mining and mineral production management, with special emphasis on responsible practices to the mining industry. Currently, he is full professor and the Head of the Centre for Responsible Mining, at University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil, which is a research center, dedicated to innovation and applied research focused on responsible practices in mining. He was the Head of the Department of Mining and Petroleum Engineering at USP from 2015 to 2019. He is an International Consultant with the Global Mercury Program of UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization), member of SME (USA), Fellow of The Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3, UK) and Chartered Engineer CEng (Engineering Council, UK), as well as acting QP (Qualified Person, NI-43101) and CP (Competent Person, JORC and CRIRSCO) for numerous mining enterprises worldwide. Currently, he is a member of the Technical Board of CBBR (Brazilian Commission for Mineral Resources and Reserves), a member of the Executive Board of EMBRAPII?s Unit Tecnogreen, a Research Scholar with FAPESP and CNPq (Brazil) and a member of the Editorial Board of the Mining Technology journal and the Brasil Mineral journal.

Engenheiro de Minas da Universidade de São Paulo (1983), possui doutorado pelo Imperial College, University of London (1995) e mestrado pela Southern Illinois University (1989). Atualmente é professor titular da Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo e dirigente do NAP.Mineração/USP (Núcleo de Pesquisa para a Pequena Mineração Responsável da USP). Foi Chefe do Departamento de Engenharia de Minas e de Petróleo da Escola Politécnica da USP entre 2015 e 2019. É membro do Conselho Editorial do periódico "Mining Technology" ("Transactions of the Institutions of Mining and Metallurgy: Section A"), da Taylor & Francis, e membro do Conselho Editorial do periódico "Brasil Mineral". É revisor dos periódicos Information Sciences, Journal of the Operational Research Society e Journal of Cleaner Production. É Assessor Internacional do Programa Global de Mercúrio da UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) em Vienna, Austria, desde 2011 com index 502486. É Fellow do IOM3 (Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining), com registro 461723. Possui certificação CEng junto ao Engineering Council, UK, desde 1994, com registro 612131. É membro pleno da Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME/EUA) desde 1981 com registro #793700. Possui qualificação internacional como QP (Qualified Person, NI 43-101) e CP (Competent Person, JORC e CRIRSCO), atua como conselheiro e membro do comitê técnico da CBRR (Comissão Brasileira de Recursos e Reservas) e membro do conselho da Unidade EMBRAPII Tecnogreen, da POLI-USP. É Conselheiro do Parque Tecnológico de Santos-SP, como representante da Escola Politécnica da USP. É Líder do Grupo de Pesquisa "Lavra de Minas e Mineração Responsável" do CNPq. Tem ampla atuação em gestão de inovação e na área de Engenharia de Minas, principalmente nas seguintes especialidades: planejamento de lavra, software de mineração, automação na mineração, inovação para a mineração, governança de lavra, mineração 4.0, pequena mineração responsável e gestão de produção na industria mineral.
