Fábio Ferri-de-Barros
Dr. Ferri is an internationally trained paediatric orthopaedics and spine surgeon. His full time clinical-academic practice is primarily devoted to paediatric spine surgery at the Alberta Children?s Hospital (ACH). His academic activities include local and national leadership, research, teaching, and global health endeavours. Fábio?s unique academic contribution is his thesis research work addressing the theme of ethics of health resource allocation in the publicly financed system in Brazil, which was published in 2016 by the Inter-American Development Bank. * Building on the broad concept of ethics of health resource allocation, Dr. Ferri has systematically implemented innovative approaches to paediatric spine surgery at the ACH in collaboration with his team, which have led to remarkable improvements in quality, safety and value of care for patients with paediatric spine deformity, which have been acknowledged nationally and internationally.
Possui graduação em Medicina pela Faculdade de Ciências Médicas da Santa Casa de São Paulo (1995) e mestrado em Health Policy Management And Evaluation/IMS - University of Toronto (2013). Atualmente é professor associado do departamento de cirurgia da University de Calgary, presidente da sociedade canadense de coluna pediátrica. Fellow do Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Fellow eleito do College of Surgeons of East Central and Souther Africa (COSECSA), membro honorário da Sociedade Brasileira de Ortopedia Pediátrica). Atuação tempo integral e exclusiva como cirurgião de coluna e ortopedia pediátrica no Alberta Children's Hospital. Tem experiência na área de Medicina, com ênfase em Cirurgia Ortopédica, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: escoliose, acesso a serviços de saúde e ética de alocação de recursos.
