Waleska Teixeira Caiaffa is a professor of epidemiology and public health at the Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and leader of the Research Group on Epidemiology / Observatory for Urban Health in Belo Horizonte (OSUBH-GPE). Researcher 1B of CNPq, she has a Master's degree in Public Health (international health and epidemiology) from the "Johns Hopkins University (JHU) - Bloomberg School of Public Health", PhD from the Federal University of Minas Gerais and postdoctoral degree at JHU. He was president of the International Society for Urban Health (ISUH) of the New York Academy of Medicine from 2011 to 2014, when he chaired the 10th. International Conference on Urban Health (ICUH), in 2011 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil (www.icuh2011.org). She is a member of the Steering Committee of the International Institute of Global Health at the United Nations University (IIGH-UNU) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, since 2015. She is an associate editor of the Journal of Urban Health and Cities and Health. It works mainly in the subjects: urban health; social determinants of health with focus on the urban area; evaluation of urban interventions in the health of populations (whether or not they come from the health sector); communicable diseases, and drug use in the urban context.
