Jorge Vitorio Bacellar dos Santos Pereira

Jorge Vitório Pereira holds a degree in Mathematics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1999), obtained one year after completing his Master's in Mathematics from the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) in 1998. He received his Ph.D. in 2001 from the same institution. After a period as a postdoctoral fellow, first at IMPA (Profix-Cnpq doctoral fellowship) and then at the Université de Rennes (CNRS fellowship), he returned as an associate researcher at IMPA (Cátedra Unibanco, 2005). He is currently a senior researcher and manager of the Division of Scientific Activities at IMPA, coordinator of the Mathematics Area at FAPERJ, member of the scientific committee at Math-AmSud, and editor of the IMPA Mathematical Monographs book series. He was responsible for the Teaching Division of IMPA (2010-2014), a member of the Technical Scientific Council of IMPA (2014-2020), and a member of the scientific committee of the Franco-Brazilian Mathematics Network (2016-2023).His scientific research is at the intersection of algebraic geometry and the theory of holomorphic foliations. He was a guest lecturer at the Bourbaki Seminar in 2007, a Marie Curie FCP Fellow at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (Germany) in 2018 and the first mathematician in Latin America to hold the Jean-Morlet Chair at CIRM (France) in the first half of 2020.He supervised seven Ph.D. theses and has more than 60 publications with research articles in international journals, among which stand out Inventiones Mathematicae, Duke Mathematical Journal, Annales Scientifiques de l'École normale supérieure and Journal of Algebraic Geometry. He will deliver a plenary lecture at the Mathematical Congress of Americas, 2025 edition.

Possui graduação em Matemática pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1999) obtida um ano após a conclusão do seu mestrado em Matemática pelo Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA) em 1998. Doutorou-se em 2001 na mesma instituição. Após um período como pós-doutor, primeiro no IMPA (Bolsa de fixação de doutores Profix-Cnpq) e depois na Université de Rennes (bolsista do CNRS), regressou como pesquisador associado do IMPA (Cátedra Unibanco, 2005). Atualmente é pesquisador titular e gerente da Divisão de Atividades Científicas do IMPA, coordenador da Área da Matemática na FAPERJ, membro do comitê científico do Math-AmSud e editor da série de livros IMPA Mathematical Monographs. Foi responsável pela Divisão de Ensino do IMPA (2010-2014), membro do Conselho Técnico Científico do IMPA (2014-2020) e membro do comitê científico da Rede Franco-Brasileira de Matemática(2016-2023). Sua pesquisa científica está na interseção da geometria algébrica com a teoria das folheações holomorfas. Foi palestrante convidado do Seminário Bourbaki em 2007, Marie Curie FCP Fellow no Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (Alemanhã) em 2018 e o primeiro matemático da América Latina a ocupar a cátedra Jean-Morlet no CIRM (França) no primeiro semestre de 2020. Orientou 7 doutores e possui mais de 60 publicações, com artigos de pesquisa em revistas internacionais entre as quais destacam-se Inventiones Mathematicae, Duke Mathematical Journal, Annales scientifiques de l'École normale supérieure e Journal of Algebraic Geometry. Foi convidado para proferir palestra plenária na edição de 2025 do Mathematical Congress of Americas..
