Alina Rita Gutierrez Delgado
Graduated in Hydrography - Oceanography by the Granma Naval Academy in Havana, Cuba. Master in Integrated Management of the Coastal Zone at the Institute of Marine Sciences of the University of Havana and a PhD in Oceanography-Meteorology defended at the Institute of Meteorology of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba. Reached the scientific category of senior researcher. She has worked in the areas of Physical and Chemical Oceanography, Marine Pollution, Marine Environment Quality Studies, Integrated Coastal Management, Marine Environmental Impact, Climate Changes, Coastal Floods, Residues in the Seas, Numeric Simulations of Marine Larval Paths, numerical simulations of the ecology of populations and marine communities, numerical simulations of marine currents, numerical simulations of passive particles as pollutants. Managed important marine research projects associated with the oceanographic characteristics of the ocean waters that surround Cuba (1996-2000) and its relationship with Larval Populations of marine species of commercial interest to Cuba. The Behavior of the surface Temperature of the ocean waters around Cuba in a period of 34 years. The Effect of ENSO on the sea surface temperature and the abundance of fish larvae in the ocean waters of Cuba. Worked on the assessment of the State of the marine environment in the North Cays of Villa Clara for tourism purposes, the Study of the Hydrodynamic Regime and numerical modeling of the currents. Developed Strategies for the management of coastal areas vulnerable to oil pollution, Proposals for economic valuation of the damage of a hydrocarbon spill. Has carried out the environmental monitoring during the exploratory drilling to the NW of Cuba, simulated danger of oil pollution on the northwestern coast of Cuba. Other studies include the determination of the dispersion and chaoticity of passive particles in the ocean waters of the western region of Cuba. The simulation of the dispersion of lobster larvae in the Caribbean based on Eulerian and Lagrangian models. She has given lectures, teaching in postgraduate studies, participated in national and international events, made scientific publications in refereed journals and books and has obtained several awards and medals for the results achieved in science and technological innovation.
