Alfredo Tiomno Tolmasquim

Chemical Engineer, with M. Sc. in Production Engineering and Ph.D. in Communication at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and a postdoctoral degree at the Edelstein Center for the History and Philosophy of Science, Technology and Medicine at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.Full researcher at the Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences, where he was head of the Research Department, Information and Documentation Coordinator and Director. He was director of Scientific Development at the Museum of Tomorrow and coordinator of Teaching and Research at the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT). He is a visiting researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies at UFRJ, the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, and the Advanced Studies Institute at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.Tolmasquim was a member of the Scientific Committee of the World Data System (WDS); National Council of Archives (CONARQ); Technical-Scientific Councils of the National Astrophysics Laboratory (LNA), IBICT and MAST; National Council for Cultural Policy (CNPC), Deliberative Council of the Brazilian Society for the History of Science (SBHC) and the Board of Directors of the Institute for Development and Management (IDG).He was also a consultant for the World History of Science Online (WHSO) project; Secretary of the IUPHS Commission on Bibliography and Documentation; and Coordinator of the OAS Project for the Popularization of Science in Latin America and the Caribbean. He was curator of the Holocaust Memorial in Rio de Janeiro and a consultant for several exhibitions on the history of science.Tolmasquim develops research on science communication and science museums, history of science in Brazil and scientific information and documentation.

Engenheiro Químico, com mestrado em Engenharia de Produção e doutorado em Comunicação pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) e pós-doutorado no Edelstein Center for the History and Philosophy of Science, Technology and Medicine da Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Pesquisador titular do Museu de Astronomia e Ciências Afins, onde foi chefe do Departamento de Pesquisa, Coordenador de Informação e Documentação e Diretor. Foi diretor de Desenvolvimento Científico do Museu do Amanhã e coordenador de Ensino e Pesquisa do Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia (IBICT). É pesquisador visitante do Instituto de Estudos Avançados da UFRJ, do Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, em Berlim, e do Advanced Studies Institute da Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. Foi membro do Scientific Comittee do World Data System (WDS); Conselho Nacional de Arquivos (CONARQ); Conselhos Técnico-Científicos do Laboratório Nacional de Astrofísica (LNA), do IBICT e do MAST; Conselho Nacional de Política Cultural (CNPC), Conselho Deliberativo da Sociedade Brasileira de História da Ciência (SBHC) e do Conselho de Administração do Instituto de Desenvolvimento e Gestão (IDG). Foi ainda consultor do projeto World History of Science Online (WHSO); Secretário da Commission on Bibliography and Documentation da IUPHS; e Coordenador do Projeto de Popularização da Ciência na América Latina e Caribe da OEA. Foi curador do Memorial do Holocausto do Rio de Janeiro e consultor de várias exposições sobre história da ciência. Desenvolve pesquisas sobre divulgação científica e museus de ciências, história da ciência no Brasil e informação e documentação científica.
