I was graduated Medical Doctor in 1979 by the Federal University of Juiz de Fora. In 1982 I received the title of Specialist in Public Health and in 1990 a Master Degree in Preventive Medicine both by the University of São Paulo. I obtained a Ph.D. in Applied Population Research in the University of Exeter in 1994, sponsored by the World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program and CNPq. I started working in the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto-University of São Paulo (USP) in 1999 in the Department of Social Medicine. In 2006, I received the habilitation of Associate Professor and in 2019 I moved to the Department of Health, Cycles of Life and Society in the School of Public Health of USP where I am engaged in the Post Graduation Programme.
Working experiences: I started working as a Research Assistant in the Carlos Chagas Foundation in 1982 in a project for Sexual Health Education named ?This sex that is ours?. From this project I had the experience of being a Junior Consultant in Cape Vert Islands for UNESCO in 1983. I was approved to be a Public Health Doctor for the São Paulo State Health Secretariat in 1984 and worked in the Institute of Health as part of a team developing studies and training for health professionals in the Womens? Comprehensive Health Program. I coordinated this Program for few months before going to England. In my return to Brazil I worked as Senior Program Officer for the Brazilian Officer of AIDSCAP Project implemented by Family Health International and funded by USAID. My research areas at the University are reproductive health and gender. I participated of several Commission and Committees, including CISMU at the National Health Council, and organizing congresses and conferences. I participated of several international seminars in many countries and technical working groups such as the Working Group on Classification of Sexual Disorders e Sexual Health for the revision of ICD-10 of World Health Organization (2011-2013). I am a referee for several national and international scientific journals.
