Francesco Corona
Francesco Corona was a professor of Machine Learning of the Department of Computing at the Federal University of Ceará and a docent of Information and Computer Science at the Department of Computer Science of the Aalto University (Finland). Currently, he is professor of Process Control and Automation of the School of Science at the Aalto University. He received the Laurea degree in Chemical Engineering from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials of the University of Cagliari (Italy). After working as process control engineer for the Saras Group, he received the Ph.D. (Eng.) degree in Industrial Engineering from the Doctoral School in Industrial Engineering of the University of Cagliari. He joined the Aalto University/Helsinki University of Technology as a post-doctoral researcher in January 2007, in 2009 he was appointed the docentship in Industrial applications of Machine Learning and in 2014 the docentship in Information and Computer Science. In 2014 he joined the Federal University of Ceará as CNPq researcher in the Department of Teleinformatics Engineering and in 2016 he was appointed the professorship in Machine Learning and Logic at the Department of Computer Science.
Francesco's interest concentrate on statistical machine learning and probabilistic modelling, automatic control, and information visualisation: Emphasis is on full-scale applications to supervision, control, and optimisation of industrial and environmental systems.
He is member of IFAC, the International Federation of Automatic Control (since 2007). In IFAC, he is member of the Technical Commitee 8.4 on Biosystems and Bioprocesses (since 2011) where he serves as vice-chair (on industry, since 2017) and he is member of the IFAC Industry Committee (since 2018).
