André Lúcio Franceschini Sarria
I am a chemist graduated at the Federal University of Sao Carlos in Brazil.
My PhD in Chemistry of Natural Products was focused on searching for new bioactive compounds with insecticides properties. I have some patents using flavonoids complexed with transitions metals on new insecticides registered in 2013 and 2014. I gained part of my PhD at San Pablo University in Madrid, Spain, with the support of the Brazilian Air Force and EAD-CASA. There I used methods in biotechnology to study the rhizosphere and how to increase the production of morphine from the Papaver somniferum using PGPR bacteria. In 2013 I joined to the Biointeractions and Crop Protection (BCCP) team at Rothamsted Research as a chemical ecologist.
My expertise areas are: chromatography methods of isolation of organic compounds from plants, fungus, bacteria and mammals; structural determination of organic compounds using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and other spectrometric tools; analysis of semiochemicals from plants with agricultural and husbandry interest, identification and characterization of elicitors involved in (a)biotic stress in plants; synthesis of semiochemicals and metallic complex as a insecticides.
